Consulting

If you have an idea you want help with or perhaps even your own IT dept that will do the work, but could use another point of view, then I can help. Over 15 years experience in IT, designing database applications and user interfaces on everything from PC's to IBM AS400's is available to help find a solution to your design requirements. Some of this time has been spent in customer-facing roles, sales, support etc. and has given me the experience to have a broader view of a requirement than might otherwise be the case.

PHP/MySQL database design

This combination of technologies forms the basis for any dynamic, data-driven site. With markets moving ever faster, it is important to be able to respond quickly. Keeping your site up to date and accurate can be the difference between success and failure. A dynamic site means that you can update the information displayed on your site, without having to make the changes directly to the site itself.

Content Management

While many CMS packages are available, they can be complicated to use, require substantial effort to tailor them to your specific needs and, maybe most importantly, they are expensive. My solution is to provide you with a customised solution integrated as part of the package. By working closely with you throughout the entire development cycle, the customized packages are invariably straightforward and intuitive to use, allowing you as much, or as little control of the information as you need

Accessibility/Cross-browser compatibility

With the range of operating systems, browsers and standards that are out there, it can be a challenge to ensure that your site will be consistent across all these combinations. By ensuring that your site is written to the latest standards as defined by the World Wide Web Consortium (the W3C), we can make sure that this is the case. Throughout the development process, sites are tested in a range of different browsers allowing us to catch any problems early and fix them.

Flash

With the uptake of broadband it is quite probable that you will see more and more sites making use of this exciting technology. Traditionally the overhead associated with Flash prohibited its use with dial-up services but that constraint has gone. It is now quite possible to add anything from simple animated content to your site or produce an entire site using Flash, giving your visitors an entirely different browsing experience.

Maintenance/Upgrade to your existing site

If you already have a site and don't want the hassle of updating it yourself or are unhappy with your exisitng supplier, then we are quite happy to take on the responsibility of this for you. Modifications can be minimal, such as cleaning up or adding a few pages, or more ambitious, such as performing a complete overhaul of your site to provide new services, a new appearance, ensuring compliance with new web standards or presenting a more professional appearance to the outside world. Remember, the web site is often your first contact with potential customers and is important in how they form their first impression of your company!
